Moreover, research on Cellular Automata often involves cooperation between experts in different scientific disciplines, opening new perspectives to the cross fertilization of different kinds of knowledge. After the successful ACRI Conferences in Cosenza (1994) and Milano (1996), the third edition of ACRI aims at representing an international forum for researchers active in the Cellular Automata field, and also for those researchers who are wishing to evaluate the possibility to apply them in their own fields, or are interested in exploring this paradigm. ACRI '98 will be held at SISSA / ISAS (Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati - International School for Advanced Studies). SISSA is part of a scientific campus located near Miramare Castle, about 6 km from downtown Trieste and enjoys its rather picturesque setting on the hills facing the Adriatic sea. CONFERENCE TOPICS Papers are welcome on all the aspects related to Cellular Automata research, either theoretical or applicative, including: Cellular Automata theory Cellular Automata models Applications of Cellular Automata Cellular Automata-like models Cellular Automata & artificial life Cellular Automata & artificial intelligence Languages and software environments for Cellular Automata Parallel processing by Cellular Automata Epistemological aspects of Cellular Automata Other related topics CONFERENCE GENERAL CHAIRS Stefania Bandini (Department of Computer Science - University of Milan) Roberto Serra (Montecatini Environmental Research Centre - Ravenna) SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE Stefania Bandini (University of Milan) Gianpiero Cattaneo (University of Milan) Bastien Chopard (University of Geneve) Salvatore Di Gregorio (University of Calabria) Petr Kurka (Charles University in Prague) Giancarlo Mauri (University of Milan) Jacques Mazoyer (LIP-ENS - Lyon) Giovanni Rabino (Politechnique of Milan) Giandomenico Spezzano (Universita` della Calabria) Roberto Serra (Montecatini Environmental Research Centre - Ravenna) =46urio Suggi Liverani (Illycaffe` S.p.A. - Trieste) Marco Tomassini (Ecole Politechnique Federale - Lausanne) =46rancesco Tisato (University of Milan) Giuseppe Trautteur (University of Naples) Thomas Worsch (University of Karlsruhe) Mark Sawyer (University of Edinburg) INVITED LECTURES Francisco Varela, Chris Langton PANEL Unifying concepts and common properties of complex dynamical systems SPECIAL EVENTS: The city as a complex system New models and tools for interpreting the urban dynamics Towards an ethics of the complexity New references for knowing and doing ORGANISING COMITTEE Furio Suggi Liverani - chair (illycaffe` - Trieste) Stefano Fantoni - co-chair (SISSA - Trieste) Diana Csaki (illycaffe` - Trieste) Massimiliano Magagnini (Consorzio Milano Ricerche) Judith Mangolte (NO=C8 - Milano) Marco Pierantoni (Universita` di Milano) Marco Villani (Centro Ricerche Ambientali Montecatini - Ravenna) CONFERENCE ORGANIZATION SECRETARIAT Diana Csaki illycaffe` via Flavia, 110 Trieste email: diana.csaki@illy.it ADDRESS IN INTERNET http://lse.usr.dsi.unimi.it/ACRI98 CONFERENCE LOCATION SISSA / ISAS Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati International School for Advanced Studies via Beirut 4 - 34014 Trieste - Italy Phone: +39-40-3787463 Fax:+39-40-3787528 (http://www.sissa.it) TIME SCHEDULE 28 February: paper submission 30 April: acceptance notification 30 May: final version of papers ISTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS Papers should be written in English and should not exceed 12 pages (Times 12, line spacing 2, figures and references included).
