After a degree in Computer Science from the University of Milan, I spent a brief period at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center and the Department of Molecular Biology of Princeton University.
Then, after a year at ST Microelectronics in Italy, I started my scientific career doing a doctorate in Scientific Computing at the University of Cologne in Germany.
After that, and before initiating the current appointment at the National Research Council of Italy, I was a one-year post-doc at the Department of Computer Science of the University La Sapienza in Rome, a four-months visiting scholar at the System Biology Department of the Harvard Medical School in Boston and a one-year post-doc at the Institute for Medical Bio-Mathematics in Tel Aviv.
My research interests range from the study of complex systems in general to the modeling of biological systems with particular interest in the immune system and related pathologies.
I have coauthored one book and about 100 peer-reviewed research papers among journals, books and conferences proceedings.
I have been involved as principal investigator in two EU-funded projects of the ICT for Health of the 6th Framework Programme (FP6) and I have coordinated the project MISSION-T2D of the FP7.
I am adjunct professor at the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Roma Tre, teaching Computational Biology.
I am also adjunct professor for the academic year 2017-2018 at the University LUISS Guido Carli, teaching Information Systems.
