Diego di Bernardo: Dynamical modelling and control of biological systems with microfluidics

dibernardo

In this talk, I will present how microfluidics can be combined with dynamical modelling based on ordinary differential equations to observe the temporal dynamics of biological processes and to explain their underlying mechanisms with application to basic biology and oncology. I will show two examples from our current research: (1) elucidation of the mechanisms regulating the cytoplasm-nuclear shuttling of TFEB, a master regulator of lysosomal biogenesis in mammalian cells; (2) identification and modelling of transcriptional dynamical heterogeneity and drug sensitivity in cancer cells by microfluidics-based single-cell transcriptomic.
