Anomaly detection in multichannel data using sparse representation in radwt frames

We introduce a new methodology for anomaly detection (AD) in multichannel fast oscillating signals based on nonparametric penalized regression. Assuming the signals share similar shapes and characteristics, the estimation procedures are based on the use of the Rational-Dilation Wavelet Transform (RADWT), equipped with a tunable Q-factor able to provide sparse representations of functions with different oscillations persistence. Under the standard hypothesis of Gaussian additive noise, we model the signals by the RADWT and the anomalies as additive in each signal.

TLS and GB-RAR Measurements of Vibration Frequencies and Oscillation Amplitudes of Tall Structures: An Application to Wind Towers

This article presents a methodology for the monitoring of tall structures based on the joint use of a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS), configured in line scanner mode, and a ground-based real aperture radar (GB-RAR) interferometer. The methodology provides both natural frequencies and oscillation amplitudes of tall structures. Acquisitions of the surface of the tall structure are performed by the TLS with a high sampling rate: each line scan provides an instantaneous longitudinal section.

A Fractional-in-Time Prey-Predator Model with Hunting Cooperation: Qualitative Analysis, Stability and Numerical Approximations

A prey-predator system with logistic growth of prey and hunting cooperation of predators is studied. The introduction of fractional time derivatives and the related persistent memory strongly characterize the model behavior, as many dynamical systems in the applied sciences are well described by such fractional-order models. Mathematical analysis and numerical simulations are performed to highlight the characteristics of the proposed model.

The epigenetics of inflammaging: The contribution of age-related heterochromatin loss and locus-specific remodelling and the modulation by environmental stimuli

A growing amount of evidences indicates that inflammaging - the chronic, low grade inflammation state characteristic of the elderly - is the result of genetic as well as environmental or stochastic factors. Some of these, such as the accumulation of senescent cells that are persistent during aging or accompany its progression, seem to be sufficient to initiate the aging process and to fuel it. Others, like exposure to environmental compounds or infections, are temporary and resolve within a (relatively) short time.

Fractional Orlicz-Sobolev spaces

The optimal Orlicz target space and the optimal rearrangement-invariant tar- get space are exhibited for embeddings of fractional-order Orlicz-Sobolev spaces W^{s,A}(R^n). Related Hardy type inequalities are proposed as well. Versions for frac- tional Orlicz-Sobolev seminorms of the Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu theorem on the limit as s->1^- and of the Maz'ya-Shaposhnikova theorem on the limit as s ->0^+ are established. This is a joint work with Andrea Cianchi, Lubos Pick and Lenka Slavikova.

Nonlinear stability and numerical simulations for a reaction-diffusion system modelling Allee effect on predators

A reaction-diffusion system governing the prey-predator interaction with Allee effect on the predators, already introduced by the authors in a previous work is reconsidered with the aim of showing destabilization mechanisms of the biologically meaning equilibrium and detecting some aspects for the eventual oscillatory pattern formation. Extensive numerical simulations, depicting such complex dynamics, are shown. In order to complete the stability analysis of the coexistence equilibrium, a nonlinear stability result is shown.

Modeling drug delivery from multiple emulsions

We present a mechanistic model of drug release from a multiple emulsion into an external surrounding fluid. We consider a single multilayer droplet where the drug kinetics are described by a pure diffusive process through different liquid shells. The multilayer problem is described by a system of diffusion equations coupled via interlayer conditions imposing continuity of drug concentration and flux. Mass resistance is imposed at the outer boundary through the application of a surfactant at the external surface of the droplet.
