Gamma-Convergence Analysis of Systems of Edge Dislocations: The Self Energy Regime

This paper deals with the elastic energy induced by systems of straight edge dislocations in the framework of linearized plane elasticity. The dislocations are introduced as point topological defects of the displacement-gradient fields. Following the core radius approach, we introduce a parameter ? > 0 representing the lattice spacing of the crystal, we remove a disc of radius ? around each dislocation and compute the elastic energy stored outside the union of such discs, namely outside the core region. Rheology of active emulsions with negative effective viscosity

We numerically study by lattice Boltzmann simulations the rheological properties of an active emulsion made of a suspension of an active polar gel embedded in an isotropic passive background. We find that the hexatic equilibrium configuration of polar droplets is highly sensitive to both active injection and external forcing and may either lead to asymmetric unidirectional states which break top-bottom symmetry or symmetric ones. In this latter case, for large enough activity, the system develops a shear thickening regime at low shear rates.

The core-radius approach to supercritical fractional perimeters, curvatures and geometric flows

We consider a core-radius approach to nonlocal perimeters governed by isotropic kernels having critical and supercritical exponents, extending the nowadays classical notion of s-fractional perimeter, defined for 0<s<1, to the case s>=1. We show that, as the core-radius vanishes, such core-radius regularized s-fractional perimeters, suitably scaled, ?-converge to the standard Euclidean perimeter.

TLS and GB-RAR Measurements of Vibration Frequencies and Oscillation Amplitudes of Tall Structures: An Application to Wind Towers

This article presents a methodology for the monitoring of tall structures based on the joint use of a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS), configured in line scanner mode, and a ground-based real aperture radar (GB-RAR) interferometer. The methodology provides both natural frequencies and oscillation amplitudes of tall structures. Acquisitions of the surface of the tall structure are performed by the TLS with a high sampling rate: each line scan provides an instantaneous longitudinal section.

Evaluating the impact of increasing temperatures on changes in Soil Organic Carbon stocks: sensitivity analysis and non-standard discrete approximation

A novel model is here introduced for theSOC change indexdefinedas the normalized difference between the actual Soil Organic Carbon and thevalue assumed at an initial reference year. It is tailored on the RothC carbonmodel dynamics and assumes as baseline the value of the SOC equilibriumunder constant environmental conditions. Identification and validation of viral antigens sharing sequence and structural homology with tumor-associated antigens (TAAs)

Background The host's immune system develops in equilibrium with both cellular self-antigens and non-self-antigens derived from microorganisms which enter the body during lifetime. In addition, during the years, a tumor may arise presenting to the immune system an additional pool of non-self-antigens, namely tumor antigens (tumor-associated antigens, TAAs; tumor-specific antigens, TSAs). Methods In the present study, we looked for homology between published TAAs and non-self-viral-derived epitopes. Bioinformatics analyses and ex vivo immunological validations have been performed.

Attention Based Subgraph Classification for Link Prediction by Network Re-weighting

Passive Bistatic Ground-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar: Concept, System, and Experiment Results
